Catch your breath because when you start this book, it takes you on the ride of a lifetime. It is non-stopping action and intrigue. I loved it. A great storyline. It is the best thriller I have read in years. I would say take your time and enjoy it but the book won’t let you. You’ll be caught up in it immediately, you won’t be able to put it down. I got this book for free on Amazon but I would not regret paying the full cover price, it was well worth it.

Gunnar Angel Lawrence’s novel Fair Play is staged in the real world. Lawrence was able to captivate the real world issues while encompassing his readers in a suspenseful journey as a defense attorney is forced to make life or death decisions.

Detective Paul Friedman awakes to a disturbing phone call from his former partner. Office Glenn Kelley has been abducted, or has he? Kelley’s mistake during an arrest may have guaranteed the release of a child rapist and murderer. Friedman races against time to prove that his friend and partner did not take the law into his own hands.

Jasper Davis, is on trial for the rape and murder of two little girls. The defense lawyer, Doug Lipton, was on his way to the top of the law firm he worked at. Though he knew Davis was guilty, he kept telling himself that he had to go through the guilty to protect the innocent. Doug was able to throw out all of the evidence, that would have been able to convict Davis and place him on death row.

The district attorney fighting for the conviction is outraged at the jury’s decision of not guilty, but she isn’t the only one. Soon after the release of Davis, a mysterious entity self-named Justice, comes to play and abducts several people that were tied into the case, including Doug Lipton.

When Doug finds himself strapped to a chair in a dark room, he’s unsure of exactly what happened. He quickly finds that Justice is holding him accountable for several cases where the defendant was released to the public, just for the defendant to strike again. When Justice gives him two buttons to press to either help Doug (by releasing a limb) or someone would be hurt or killed, Doug must choose between his own life, and lives of others.

Who is this Justice, and what will Doug choose? Read more ›

This is one of those books that is so realistic it’s scary. Somebody screwed up between an arrest and a trial so the perp went free. Detective Paul Friedman learned this bitter lesson with his former partner Glenn Kelley, who made a mistake during an arrest. That mistake led to freedom for a child molester and murderer, Jasper Davis. Everyone was outraged when Jasper Davis walked free. But then Officer Glenn Kelley, who was blamed for his error was abducted, maybe; and Jasper Davis’ attorney who was instrumental in having him freed finds himself at the mercy of a lunatic who calls himself Justice. Will Justice prevail? Fair Play is the first book in the series by Gunnar Angel Lawrence. Detective Paul Friedman is the main character in this and the following book. Having read this book and The Perfect Day, I can attest that both are well-written, easy to read and thoroughly captivating. I will buy future books from Mr. Lawrence knowing I’m guaranteed a good read.
