THE FINE LINE
(Between Worlds Series, book 1)
There is the fine line between the world of the living and the world of the dead, and Robin Hillard and her handsome husband Dr. Matthew Gregory are about to cross it. After the two meet in the ER of the local hospital, Robin and Matt begin a whirlwind romance. Matt surprises Robin when he proposes to her in the midst of the beautiful Pikeview Manor, the home that Matt has just purchased for them to begin their lives together. What the newlyweds are unaware of is that by walking through the front door they have walked between the worlds. The couple begins to hear strange noises, find objects moved, and they see the shadows once hidden within the majestic house.
Robin has dreams of the past, while Matt struggles with the line between science and the world of the unseen. Matt’s young daughter Olivia begins speaking of the little girl that she plays with in her room, and of the darkness lurking within every board, nail, brick, and tile of the house. The family’s love and strength is tested as they realize that terror is not imagined…its real!

Robin Hillard has been through a great deal in her twenty-six years, including an abusive marriage that nearly destroyed her. But she survived it all. And when she meets her Prince Charming in Dr. Matthew Gregory, it appears all of the darkness is in the past. However, just as the newlyweds are settling into their renovated 1800’s farm house, a new kind of darkness threatens.
Robin and Matthew must stand together against an adversary they can hardly believe is even real. It will take every once of their faith and courage to survive the dark presence lurking in their home.
As well as a warm and realistic love story, I found The Fine Line to be an interesting study of spirituality and an exploration of the many types of darkness people can face in their lives.
At times, I felt there was more detail about the house or clothing than was needed. But I personally prefer to imagine those details when I am reading where others may find this much detail helpful. And I felt maybe the paranormal part of the book (which is where this author really shines) could have begun sooner in the story because, again, Ford is truly gifted when it comes to her depiction of the paranormal.
This is a well-written story that moves at a good pace.
The fact that Robin and Matthew’s relationship seems so normal and real adds to the shock felt when things become spooky and spiritual later in the book.
Somehow, the author manages to perfectly meld the extremely ordinary with the eerie and spiritual. This was an excellent first novel for this series by Tracee Ford.

* I received this book in exchange for an honest review *
This is the first book I have read from Tracee Ford but I can promise You it will NOT be the last! I didn’t really read the description of the book since I knew I was reviewing it, I wanted to go in with a blank slate. The book starts out with the sweet beginnings of a blooming relationship. I was enjoying the romance book and just trucking right along through it when *bam* things changed up and it became much much more than a romance novel. Paranormal twists and turns started popping up adding an entire new look and feel to the story. It was amazing how it just changed from a sweet romance to needing an excersium. Saying that, it was not an abrupt, one page to the next, type of change (those don’t usually work well). Tracee started adding in the paranormal until the book had layers and layers. It was absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to dive into the next one!
*The only thing I had an issue with was there were a few parts where we went through a play by play narration of what was going on during the day. These few spots were spaced out and needed for the book, but also were not hard to deal with.
So, overall I would 100% recommend this book to anyone of the paranormal persuasion and even the romance persuasion who doesn’t mind a bit of extra oomph in their story. I would add a word of caution to people who might be sensitive aboit abuse in stories.
Beautiful work Tracee!!
