Strings of Glass by Emily Kimelman

STRINGS OF GLASS by Emily Kimelman

Strings of Glass

Sydney Rye is hanging out in India with her boyfriend, Dan, reading paperbacks and sipping beer. No violence and no reminders of her past. But when she and Blue, are attacked by a pack of wild dogs, Sydney starts to feel that old itch again; to do good by being bad.

Trouble finds Rye when she stops the attempted rape and murder of Anita, a reporter working on a story of corruption and child trafficking. The atrocities Anita describes send Sydney, Blue and Dan on a quest that takes them across India after a dangerous and, up until now, untouchable, figure. Sydney struggles to accept her true nature, fearing that she will lose herself, becoming no better than the monster she fights against. But what can Sydney do when she realizes it is the only way to end decades of abuse and exploitation?

A kick butt female character who can take the boys down and a dog who stays by her side throughout it all, has made this series one to keep a watch on.  Emily Kimelman returns with another episode with main character, Sydney Rye, but this one started out a little different.  This one Sydney Rye is keeping away from danger and laying low, until an “assignment” falls directly in her lap and she just can’t say no.

One of the things that I love about these books are the settings – they are all different and unique along with the bad guys.  Each story has its own plot, but you will definitely want to start this series in the beginning to see Sydney’s her whole story and her growth.

when I first started Sydney’s adventures, I thought this series was going one direction. now, her story has gone in a different direction. Sydney started as an ordinary, directionless woman, caught up in circumstances beyond her control. She is becoming an anti_heroine with her own set of rules and is somewhat tortured by the choices that she has made. She gets the bad guys but she’s not happy with how she has to do it. I look forward to the next episode of her struggle. It’s good she has Blue to keep her grounded.

When is peace a bad thing? Sydney is hanging out in India with her computer geek boyfriend Dan and her faithful companion Blue. Mulberry wants her to work for him but as he is still associated with Bobby Maxim and she has grown fond of breathing she passes. When she and Blue are attacked by a pack of wild dogs Sydney is reminded of the kick of surviving a good fight. So it is inevitable that she and Dan have a disagreement that sends her storming off in a huff. Trouble seems to find Sydney whether she is looking for it or not. This time it comes in the form of a reporter doing a story on a pedophile who is buying and abusing children with impunity. Now this is a fight she can get behind. But does wanting/needing the fight make her just as bad as those she fights?

This is a smart sexy addition to the Sydney Rye Series. It starts out a little slow but with each page the action adventure picks up until you are reaching for the brakes. It could probably be read stand-alone but I think you will get much more out of it if you read the previous books. With each new mystery this series gets better and better. And with the bombshell dropped at the end of this book the next should be explosive.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

There are so many e books for purchase, I’m a bit disappointed that for $5 (aus) its only just over 200 pages. I do like the series but as I am a keen reader going through sometimes more than one book a day, I want more than 200 pages. It’s a bit of a conundrum when I really enjoy a book, I can’t wait to finish it but on the other hand I don’t want it to end. I guess I have got used to having the choice of really good authors and not have to pay much. It’s not a case of ‘you get what you pay for’, I have had many many really well written and interesting e books for less than $5, I just want more pages!!

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book and WOW, Joy and Blue’s adventures just keep getting more and more exciting with each new story. The locales are exotic and are so well described that you feel transported as you read. India is a dream destination of mine and I was so happy to see that is where Emily Kimelman sent Joy and Blue this time. The story is tense and action packed, but Sydney also has some really interesting moments of self-reflection, showing that maybe she is seeking something more for herself than just revenge and justice. Finishing this latest book really makes me want to pick up the series and re-read them all over again!

I enjoyed this series having read 1 thru 4. I wouldn’t recommend it for the clean and tidy murder mystery readers. But, if you like an action packed story with a take no prisoners woman in action, this is for you

This book is definitely not for children. It is full of violence and pain. Sydney is trying to right the wrong in a sinister world with her faithful dog Blue by her side. She is a skilled warrior who thinks that she uses her head but is really lead by her heart. The setting takes you to another world where strings of glass are beautiful but deadly. Can justice be found? You tell me!
