I am a retired detective from Cumbria in the U.K. I’m an independent publisher who has written both television and film scripts either on my own, or with the award winning screenwriter Nick Gordon whose full length feature film ‘Hunted’ hits the screens in 2016/2017. Paul Anthony is my pseudonym. Born in Southport, Lancashire, I’m the son of a soldier whose family settled in Carlisle before I joined Cumbria police at the age of 19. As a detective, I served in Cumbria CID, the Regional Crime Squad in Manchester, the Special Branch, (Counter Terrorist Command) and other national agencies in the UK and elsewhere. I have an Honours Degree in Economics and Social Sciences, a Diploma in Management and a Diploma in Office Management. I’m a former winner of the Independent Authors Network Featured Author Contest and was a Featured Author at the ‘Books without Borders’ Event in Yonkers, New York, 2012. In earlier years I was a Featured Author at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany.

I wrote my first novel in 1994. Titled ‘The Fragile Peace’, I was unable to secure a traditional publishing house contract but came to an agreement with a vanity house and realised publication in 1996. Due to my employment at the time, I was forbidden to use my real name and therefore published under the pseudonym – Paul Anthony. The book has sold over 25,000 copies in hardback and many thousands, years later, when I formatted the book into kindle when the contract ended. I was offered a publishing contract from a traditional house for my second bookBushfire and this was published in London and elsewhere. Unfortunately, the Net Book Agreement impacted on the industry and my publishing company went bust having sold over 6,000 copies of Bushfire to the trade. I did not receive one penny for the work done. I then concentrated on film and television work with mixed success before returning to books with ‘The Legacy of the Ninth’. By then I had decided never to entrust my work to a traditional publisher again. Indeed, I have self-published ever since and have never sought another publisher for my books. Retired now, this is merely a hobby which I truly love.

I have written and published two crime series 1) The Boyd Series. Boyd is a Cumbrian detective who joins the police as a young man and eventually joins the Special Crime Unit of the Anti-Terrorist Branch of the Metropolitan Police. He works closely with the Security Service in the UK. These books are about criminal investigation, terrorism and espionage on both a national and international stage. 2) The Davies King Series. Davies King is a detective on the south coast of England. His character is somewhat different in make-up to that of Boyd. His close friend is the Head of the Secret Intelligence Service and another close friend is the Head of the Flying Squad in London. These tales are of espionage and serious international crime.
Both series are crime fiction thrillers / mysteries and number ten in total.
In addition, I have published a number of anthologies – with other authors from across the globe – raising money for various charities. Details of these, and all other books, are contained on my BlogSpot.
My autobiography Strike! Strike! Strike! which was published this year. The book gives a good flavour of my style of writing and what I write about. It also includes a synopsis of each of the Boyd and Davies King series, as well as the anthologies.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this latest book from a hugely talented author drawing on a vast array of experience of dealing with the full spectrum of
personal and professional human strengths, weaknesses, victories, frustrations, success, disaster and all the emotions involved which comprise the sometimes straight forward but often complex life of a Police Officers service to the public. In particular I enjoyed the obvious dedication, humour, compassion and above all desire to get the job done no matter what the hurdles encountered along the way. WARNING make sure you have set enough time aside to read right through this book because once you pick it up you will only put it down when you come to the end.

From the very start , this book rattles along, taking you on a journey that will keep you hooked until the end. Be prepared to go through all your emotions, as you are told of the many true stories that happened to the author during his service in the Cumbria Police. “Now’t ever happens in Cumbria?” Oh yes it does. From catching burglars, dealing with fatalities to espionage and terrorism, it has it all, oh I forgot, being chased by gorillas too. A great read.

Another great book from a Cumbrian author with a lifetime of frontline police service. From early cadets days through to the anti terrorist squad and everything in between – told with humour and honesty. Great stuff.

One of those books that seem to stick to your hands because you can’t put it down. As if you are there at his shoulder. a very varied and worthy career of a front line Bobby from boy to manhood.
