Special Agent indeed, Kandice Warner is everyone’s best friend. Talk about a Barbie doll! This female might have the same pretty-girl looks but even though she has a tender heart, she also has the resilience needed for a very successful FBI Hostage Negotiator. Feelings of inadequacy constantly force her to prove that she’s tough, and she demonstrates her courage when dealing with a murderous bank robber and a desperate jumper. But her tender heart can get her in trouble and she needs to grow a thicker skin. Almost impossible when her obstinate new boss, for reasons of his own, interferes in everything she does.
Assistant Director of the Criminal Investigative Division in Washington, Dan Black is as hard as they come. With the grit of a street youth stiffening his resolve, he’s worked his way up through the ranks, his personal space shields as strong as ever. Until he sees the sweetest things on two legs! A girl from his past. The one he’s never been able to forget. Working undercover in the Seattle bureau, he tries to protect his childhood fantasy but she refuses to stay put or take orders. Faced with a woman like that, what’s a mere man to do?
Great, great story. I loved every minute of it. And Kandi? Loved her too. She was a different kind of Agent. Both in personality and looks. She’s a really good agent and the unusual ways that she approached problems in the field worked for her. Good thing because she was often found right in the middle of whatever was going on. She has some really close friends that she adores in her unit. Bobbi and Wes, are both Agents who have a trustworthy but also at times humorous relationship with her. And her father is an eccentric, genius who loves her beyond everything! It was fun to get to see his overprotective ways too.Read more ›

Kandi has a way about her that draws people to her; her heart is so big, it’s hard for her to sound like a tough FBI Agent, but she tries. Kandi is well suited to her job as a crisis negotiator. When their office gets a new ASAC, Dan Black, Kandi feels drawn to him and doesn’t really understand why, as Dan seems not to like her from the moment they meet. Dan was supposedly demoted from AD of the Criminal Investigation Division in Washington and sent to this Seattle Branch of the FBI. He had forgotten Kandi was assigned to the same office. Now he’s in trouble! This is really a heartwarming love story with an interesting “cops and robbers” storyline!

Kandicane, that’s her nickname, but don’t make the mistake of thinking this SA isn’t up to snuff. Getting herself into all kinds of dangerous, wacky situations, SA Kandice charms the pants off criminals and co-workers alike, and her story totally charmed me too. Extremely well-written and filled with non-stop action, Kandice and her fellow agents will take you on a ride not to be missed. To her annoyance, everyone wants to protect her, including her new boss, Dan Black, who harbors a few secrets of his own. In my opinion, the Special Agent series by Mimi Barbour just keeps getting better and better. I loved this story, the humor, the characters and the plot…especially the things I didn’t see coming. Wonderfully entertaining read!

4.5 stars This is another outstanding contemporary romance by Ms Barbour. Kandi has worked her way up in the FBI. Her co-workers tease and try to teach her to be harder on criminals but she sees the good in everyone. She is now a well-known hostage negotiator in the Seattle office. Dan knows Kandi from when they were young and has watched out for her for years. Her father is a re-known scientist/inventor who likes to make special ‘toys’ to help keep her safe. As soon as Dan and Kandi meet face to face there is a connection. This story has intrigue, suspense, insane criminals, violence, humor and romance. Hopefully, the author will continue to write more special agent stories, to date I’ve read them all and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I’ve also read numerous of her other books. I received a free copy of this book from the author solely in exchange for an honest opinion.
