Rising Sun Half Moon Rock Stars by Lisa Gillis

The band created by Jules Breaux and her best friend was supposed to be an all-girl band until sexy drummer Matt Loren auditioned.

It was supposed to be a hobby until it rose up in fame and the gigs moved from the Sunset Strip to arenas and stadiums all over the world.

It was supposed to be fun–not rip apart friendships, instigate sibling rivalry, and destroy relationships.

It was sex, drugs, rock and roll… and then it was treachery, alcoholism, and a band always on the verge of breaking up.

Live a vinyl journey. Listen as music changes and surfing becomes a culture. Walk the Boulevard of Broken Dreams with two star-crossed lovers and a band never meant to be in a monster sized trilogy.

Author Lisa Gillis triumphs yet again with her latest – a trilogy entitled Rising Sun, Half Moon, Rock Stars: D-Strings Set (Six Silver Strings D). Chock full of stylish writing, memorable characters, powerful emotions, poignant storytelling, and a profound sense of time and place, this is a testament to the complex lives and lifestyles of rock stars. I so enjoyed this effort by a truly talented writer, and I highly recommend this outstanding 3 book collection. It’s sure to delight readers who crave a huge dose of Rock ‘n Roll in their romance novels. LT

steamy love story, but it’s so much more than that

Rock Stars by Lisa Gillis is a gritty, sweaty, steamy love story, but it’s so much more than that. There are so many twists and turns that you never really know where these two are going to end up. And not in the convoluted need for conflict kind of way. In the way that rock-n-roll throws people around and tosses them out kind of way.

More than the couple, I love Jules Breaux on her own. Partially because she is tough girl, going after her dreams in a time where there were few female rocker role models, but mostly because she reminds me so much of myself growing up. She isn’t a modern princess and this isn’t a fairy tale where one good thing follows another good thing in a rainbow-road of unicorns. She’s insecure, makes mistakes, sometimes learns from them, sometimes doesn’t. Jules might have grown up as the privileged child of a rockstar, but she doesn’t always get what she wants in life.

The other thing I love is the setting of 1970s Los Angeles. I love getting lost in the smog of Americana. The vinyl, the fringe, the twists and turns of the California canyons. The series is a fast-paced set, sexy romance novels, but the setting is a little reminiscent of the film Almost Famous, one of my favorites. <3

Another gem by Author Lisa Gillis. This series goes into detail of the time period, the lifestyle of a band trying to make it big in the 70s and the innocence of youth as life’s lessons are learned. Wonderfully written and captivating. Would recommend to anyone in love with classic rock music and that era.

I was so happy that this was a trilogy but I read it from start to finish and can’t wait for more! The characters are so real that I found myself blushing, getting angry or laughing out loud more than once. It was like a trip back in time and I loved it!!

Author Lisa Gillis did a great job telling the story of Jules and Matt and their rise to the top with their rock band in the 70’s. The details were so vivid; it’s as if she has lived the life herself. I loved the lyrics she incorporated in the beginning of chapters giving insight to the emotion and meanings behind the music. This is an emotional story of love, drugs, alcohol, loss, fame, personal growth, and all things Rock and Roll! We live through the formation of the band, the writing and jam sessions, the small venues all the way through to their successful tour in Europe, the struggles involving the lifestyle, the fallout, and how they move forward in this thing we call life. In addition to all of this, we have their story of lust and love, heartache and longing, the patch of self-destruction to clarity.
This was my first read from Author Lisa Gillis and I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
