In Sheep’s Clothing

L.D. Beyer is the author of two novels, both part of the Matthew Richter Thriller Series. His first book, In Sheep’s Clothing, was published in 2015 and was the #1 bestseller for Espionage Thrillers, Assassination Thrillers and Terrorism Thrillers on Amazon Kindle.

Beyer spent over twenty-five years in the corporate world, climbing the proverbial corporate ladder. In 2011, after years of extensive travel, too many missed family events, a half dozen relocations–including a three-year stint in Mexico–he realized it was time for a change. He chose to chase his dream of being a writer and to spend more time with his family.

He is an avid reader and, although he primarily reads thrillers, his reading list is somewhat eclectic. You’re more likely to find him with his nose in a good book instead of sitting in front of the TV.

Beyer lives in Michigan with his wife and three children. In addition to writing and reading, he enjoys cooking, hiking, biking, working out, and the occasional glass of wine.

In Sheep’s Clothing Book Description and reviews:

One man holds the reins of power.  One man vows to protect him.  One man vows to destroy him.

Caught in a game of chess he didn’t know he was playing until it was too late, the President makes the only move he can, plunging Washington and the nation into chaos. Stunned and reeling, Vice President David Kendall takes the oath of office and tries to heal a nation in mourning. But what the new president doesn’t realize is that things in the White House aren’t always what they appear to be, and sometimes what looks like the best option may turn out to be the worst. When one fatal decision triggers consequences he never envisioned, President Kendall finds himself caught up in the same game that cost his predecessor his life.

Although there was nothing he could have done, Secret Service Agent Matthew Richter is haunted by the death of the man he had vowed to protect. When his girlfriend dumps him and his boss tells him that his job is on the line, he thinks his life cannot get any worse. He soon realizes how wrong he is when he finds himself fighting to save another president from the deadly forces that he has unwittingly unleashed.

This new release by L.D. Beyer is a fast-paced, action-packed political thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Reading Other People blog: “Full of authentic thrills and clever word play, L. D. Beyer‘s In Sheep’s Clothing is master storytelling.”

Boundless Book Reviews: “I can describe In Sheep’s Clothing with one word: ‘Clever!’ Political thriller is a major understatement. The constant action kept me on edge of my seat the entire time…”

Literogo Review Blog: “The opening scene in the novel hooked me, and from that point the suspense did not let up. Not once was I bored, and so Beyerdid his job well – he kept me thrilled. With that out of the way, on a deeper level, what I really liked about this book was the depiction of the Presidents…”

Book Babble Review Blog: “I’m not always a fan of political thrillers, but this one is amazing. There is lots of suspense and intrigue, from beginning to end…Along with a great plot, we also are treated to a wide variety of characters, both heroes and villains… This story has a very plausible plot, and may well make the reader more than just a little uncomfortable. I highly recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed Tom Clancy’s writing in the past…”

5.0 out of 5 starsCouldn’t put it down!

Very surprised that I liked this book as much as I did, since I mostly read non-fiction (biographies, memoirs, extreme outdoor adventures like Everest). This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I found myself enjoying the fast paced action and suspenseful moments. I haven’t read too many political thrillers since the early days of Tom Clancy, so this was an unexpected treat that I found myself finishing in one weekend. That’s the sure sign of a great story…when you can’t put it down because you want to see what happens next! Very good attention to details without bogging you down with the usual background “boring-ness” that some authors can’t escape. Loved the action sequences on Air Force One, especially since I had toured the actual plane a month earlier and could visualize things as they were unfolding. I didn’t realize until after reading the book that LDBeyer will be writing future novels with the same lead character. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

5.0 out of 5 starsMakes you think……hard

It has been a long time since I have read a mystery that was both riveting and that made me truly uncomfortable……this one did. Most mysteries are too far removed from our normal lives to leave much of an impact after finishing. In Sheep’s Clothing was close enough to possible, and to our lives to make me think hard about a very uncomfortable subject….The research behind producing this book must have taken years. Either that or L.D. Beyer is far more gifted that just about any other mystery author I have read in the last decade! Once the action starts, you won’t want to put it down. Trust me. I crammed it into that 10 p.m. – Midnight. time frame for a few evenings. My immediate thought after finishing was, “How Did Mr. Beyer Pull That Off!” It is worth your time. Certainly if you enjoyed Tom Clancy 20 or 30 years you might just think “In Sheep’s Clothing” is better. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 starsIt’s one of those books you can’t put down…

And to think it’s the 1st novel of L.D. Beyer, makes me even more excited anticipating more and more books from him.
If you change the main character name form “Matthew Richter” to “Mitch Rapp” and cover the author name, you could swear it’s a Vince Flynn book. And let me tell you compering a new author to Vince is a high complement. (At least that what I felt reading that great book)
It’s one of those books you can’t put down. The main character from the Secret Service is the anti-hero type but nevertheless a strong developed character, with apparent sensitivity. Could be a great star for an all-new series.
This book is mainly about the Secret Services obligated to protect the President of the USA against not only from potential enemy from the outside but also from corrupted politicians from within..
It is always exiting to read a 1st novel, especially when it is so good. Can’t wait for the new novel “Eye for an Eye” Please work on it no stop.

5.0 out of 5 starsAn absolutely must read political thriller!
By Jeffaso on September 1, 2015
Format: Paperback
I just finished reading In Sheep’s Clothing last night and know that I have a new favorite author (LD Beyer) and character (Richter) to add to my list. It was a fascinating and realistic political thriller that was fast-paced and intriguing. The twists and turns in the plot kept me on the edge and made it very difficult to put down. Excellent character development and interaction between them plus great detail about so many aspects that it is obviously extremely well researched. Now that I have finished, the only thing I can wait for is the sequel! Bravo LD Beyer!

I loved this book, couldn’t put it down in fact as I continually needed to know what was going to happen next! I was surprised then to see that this was the author’s first published book. With a start like this I’ll be looking forward to many more adventures with Matthew Richter, as he takes his place alongside the other great characters of contemporary fiction like Jack Reacher, Gabriel Allon, etc…

5.0 out of 5 starsA Great Read – A Fun Read – A Page-Turner

In Sheep’s Clothing is as good as any best-seller in this genre, inviting you into the world of high-stakes politics at the highest level of government. It is a tale of good and evil replete with twists and turns and jaw-dropping scenarios but, most importantly, it gives us a very human hero (Secret Service Agent Matthew Richter) you gotta love. Well researched, the book sparks your imagination as it unfolds. You feel like you’re right there, experiencing what the characters are experiencing, feeling what they might be feeling. I loved the book, as did my husband, which tells me it has very broad appeal. Set aside some time to read this because once you get going you won’t be able to put it down!

What a great action-packed story.
After reading the prologue I knew this book would be difficult to put down, and I was RIGHT!
Each chapter left you with the desire to read more and more, and I like that.
Hopefully the sequel will be out soon because I am ready!!
Note: It’s comforting to know that there are special agents like Matthew Richter that are protecting our countries interests.

“In Sheep’s Clothing” is exciting and well written. L.D. Beyer draws you into the action, and has introduced a worthy new hero in Matthew Richter. If you like Vince Flynn you will enjoy this book.
