.5.0 out of 5 starsSuperb Story and Fab World Building!

What a delightful read.
As a master’s pawn Violet Hunter travels over the universe meeting all sorts of sentient alien life forms including Bears, Dragons, tiny cannibals etc, and picking up items that will be useful to her in the future. She thinks her master arrogant and obnoxious at first, but over time their relationship changes and when he accompanies her, pretending to be a guide, her skills allows her to know he’s her master. He falls in love with her.
I love the detailed world building, just enough, but never too much which can pull you from the story, and the slow but inevitable love between the Violet and her master as they become partners in all ways. I especially love the way Violet wins friends and influences people by being kind and thoughtful to others. That is a strength that the evil members of the Master’s Council cannot tap into. And when Violet needs help. Her new friends step up.
This is a superb story. It has a clear pay it forward message that rings true even in a world of fantasy.
Love it! I give this 5 stars.

Young empath, Violet Hunter, achieves her dream of exploring planets by becoming the pawn of one of the twelve Grand Masters, despite her forbidden psychic talent. She believes her secret is safe because the Grand Masters never appear in public and communicate through avatars.
When life-threatening cracks in the vast web of interplanetary portals disrupt civilization, Violet agrees to investigate the cause. At the same time, her trusted tutor, Mother Tingu, explains that her father’s death twenty years ago was no accident. Tingu suspects the perpetrator of both crimes comes from within the ranks of the Twelve, perhaps even Violet’s own obnoxious Grand Master. Violet must penetrate their curtain of secrecy to identify the culprit. Her challenges escalate when she meets the enigmatic man behind the griffin avatar. Armed with only her erratic powers and a mishmash of allies, she must challenge the most powerful beings in the galaxy.
I really, really liked it. Colorful planets and colorful “people” make for quite the interesting story. Wonderful detailed multiple world building. We get to go on the adventure with Violet and she sure makes that trip enjoyable. I liked Violet’s zeal for life, her spunky attitude and generous heart towards other people and species. She had such a curiosity about life. She would make a great friend although she did tend to live dangerously. Violet’s mentor, Mother Tingu, was quite the interesting character also. Wise, strict but also kind to Violet in her own way. The Grand Master that Violet served was known to her only as The Griffin, mainly from what she pieced together. He was quite the unknown element. Was he good or was he evil? What were his motives? Only time would tell. Some of the species that Violet befriended were unique and interesting.

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was well written with an exciting storyline. It was fast paced and I found myself wanting to finish to find out what happens. That said, I found it to be a little predictable. The overall story was very well done, but the love connection seemed forced and unnatural, going from nonexistent to full blown in a matter of seconds. I feel like it was overdone and overplayed with no real build up or development.

I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. It was very difficult to put down; however, with the length of chapters, I could stop and return with ease.
