The battle between the Grand Masters continue in book two as Griffin forces the council to choose sides when he demands recompense for the destruction of his home and his imprisonment by the evil Morrigu. When Violet is brought in to testify, she tries to determine which of the council are for and against them through her hidden powers of empathy, but Morrigu has other plans.

Violet’s empathy is her greatest power. Yet she has always believed her empath abilities make her unlovable, (for who wants a mate who can read their every emotion and thought?) Yet, for the right man, Griffin, it is what makes her special and so valuable to him. She is the one person he can safely love.

However, she touches others, as well. With her empathy she understands and befriends various species. These friendships prove to be durable and long lasting, so even after time, even when situations have changed, if she needs something, her prior friends come through for her. Thus proving, while there may be power in evil, Violet and Griffin prove there’s also power in good. Which will ultimately win is still in question, but my money is on Violet & Griffin.

What isn’t in question is Aurora Springer’s ability to weave a complex and extraordinarily powerful story with masterful battles and constant dangers for our two main characters one moment and then create love scenes of tender emotions to balance the storyline. And I must also mention her extraordinary detail to all the various sentient beings that fight for and against our protagonists. Her descriptions are so vivid, that not only can you believe and picture them as living creatures, but you may dream about them at night. I certainly have.

If you want an extraordinarily complex but fabulous story, written exquisitely, then the Grand Master’s Game is for you.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Aurora Springers creates a complex and powerful story with flawless battles and as a bonus: exquisite love scenes that balance the storyline, perfectly. Her attention to detail when describing all the various sentient beings she’s created (and there are a lot of them) is extraordinary. The images will form in your head, and refuse to leave. As much as I loved book 1, book 2 is even better. I cannot wait to see what book three has in store for me. I am hooked.

Not too serious, just for fun, but moves right along. Violet is wondering if this ego-maniacal grand master is going to (a) survive, and (b) care anything about her as more than a toy. Actually she is already as powerful as he is counting her magical sword and powerful dragon friends. Thank goodness that the evil grand master escapes once again (after losing more of her allies in a very close battle) so that we can have a third in the series.
