The Devil’s Lieutenant

The Devil’s Lieutenant

The Devil’s Lieutenant is a fresh look at the war between good and evil. In this case, Homicide Detective Jake Holyfield represents good. And the Devil is the all consuming evil force that threatens everyone.
Jake gets a call from an informant, Mikael Ruskoff, tries to tell Jake that the killer is an enforcer contracted by the Devil to collect past due debts.  He has contacted Jake because he wants to help Jake in his fight. But Jake refuses to believe the Devil exists and tells Mikael, thanks but no thanks.
He continues to use standard procedures when investigating the murders. When he sees a video of one of the murders taking place and witnesses the method the killer uses, he cannot deny the Devil’s existence any more. To further complicate things, a blurred image of his best friend, Max, appears on the tape, watching from the sidelines. Jake doesn’t know how deeply Max is involved but he does know he has to save his friend from a fate worse than death.
Jake decides to do whatever he has to do to stop the killer and save Max from the same fate. Then matters take an even darker turn when the killer takes an interest in Jake’s family – his pregnant wife and two year old daughter.  Just when he wonders if he’ll be able to protect his family and Max, he finds a surprising ally in Mikael Ruskoff.  The battle is on.

About the author Suzi Albracht

Love to write horror thrillers with intense personal relationships between characters. I started reading earlier in life than most of my friends and spent many hours hidden in closets and under beds, sneaking in just another ten minutes of whatever book I was reading. As soon as I was old enough, my mother would send me to library to pick up books for her. This delighted me because it opened up a whole new world of books not available in school.

I read everything I could get my hands on but was drawn to sci-fi, horror and thrillers. As I matured, I would say my main influences became Stephen King, Dean Koontz and William Faulkner. My writing definitely reflects those influences.
I can honestly says my twitter bio describes me to a T – Write, scare myself, turn all the lights on, write some more. Take a break, play pool, kick butt/get butt kicked, go write more horror, double lock door. Wow! Thrill ride from beginning to end. This story and the events were very intense and I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. The story kept me interested from beginning to end. I usually don’t read much so that says alot. If I had to pick favorite characters I’d have to say I liked Jake and Mikael the best. Mikael really surprised me (I won’t spoil the story and tell you where). I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I think this is my new favorite writer.

I’m not going to lie: whenever I see something related to the horror genre, I’m always immediately skeptical. That being said, The Devil’s Lieutenant was that little gem in the horror genre that restored my faith. It was gritty, well-told, and didn’t rely on heavy gore to define itself.Detective Jake Holyfield has finally snagged the promotion he’s been looking for. With grisly murders unlike anything he’s ever seen before, Jake and his family are about to take a very supernatural ride. The Devil’s Lieutenant is looking to collect, and will destroy or recruit anything in his way.I think the reason this novel works so well is because it preys upon fears and desires simultaneously. The one thing you desire most also happens to be the one thing you fear more than anything–would you be willing to bargain with the devil in order to assuage the fears and accomplish the desires? The characters are full of depth, and all of their underlying story-arcs overlap in some way with the main plot. You will find yourself gnawing on your fingernails as everything unfolds, twists, and smacks you in the face. Be prepared for an immersive tale that will make you second-guess your own morals and leave you wanting more with a tantalizing ending.

The Devil has his sights set on conquering souls in and around the Washington D.C. area. But being the busy denizen that he was, he sent a henchman to do his bidding armed with a strange gel that wreaks havoc with one’s body if sinister instructions are not followed to the letter. Enter a hapless D.C. cop with a drinking problem, an unfaithful wife and a brother easily seduced by money and power and you have mayhem, unexplained disappearances along with a host of unusually gruesome discoveries. Suzie Albracht’s tale is original, imaginative and pulls no punches immersing the reader into the age old battle of good vs. evil with a totally unique spin on things as well as interesting and believable characters. This is one devilishly slick and twisted yarn !
