Beatrice Tanner doesn’t want to go to Texas to live with her father’s brother, but she has nowhere else to go. Her mother is shut away in a mental institution and her father is shut away in a prison. She’s never met Uncle Kyle and she hopes that he’s nothing like her father.
As it turns out, Uncle Kyle isn’t much like anybody she’s ever met. He’s a mechanic who wakes up at the crack of dawn to fix cars. He says about three words a day. His only friends are his dog and his pickup truck.
Beatrice believes that Uncle Kyle has secrets, and the more she digs and explores, the more secrets she uncovers. Could it be that her uncle might have a side job? Something… magical?
In a fantastical journey of courage and self-discovery, Beatrice discovers how big the world really is, and what it means to have a family.
