The Survivor Diaries- Book II

For every end, there is a beginning. Growth must happen— so says Darwin, anyway. I’m Laura, and my Villagers and I continue to make our way through the decay of post-apocalyptic Coastal California during the nuclear winter and fallout of the Last War.
The earth is enraged and seeking revenge for our trespasses— with leftover surprises in the rubble of our city, dormancy can’t last forever.
When the Plague runs murderously through the Village, and lives and psyches continue to be pushed to their limits, I’m faced with a gut wrenching decision. But are the Villagers ready to take the risk and leave this catastrophic reality for what could be a worse unknown? Should we follow the ambiguous motives of Colonel Jackson?
Growth is hard, but stagnation means certain death.

So many great characters growing or coming and going and the balance of reality and humor is perfect. Bailey: It was amazeballs! [LMAO!] So much detail went into each character (back stories included) and events throughout the book were well done and again very well thought out. I love the Q&A at the back. You actually asked questions I would have asked you personally. Thank you for that. I am totally Team Jackson. It’s a new world that you have created and I’m so happy I stumbled onto these books. I have to say it’s one that I’ll pick up again (book one as well) down the road. What’s funny is that some books just stay with you long after you read them and now I’m sure after reading these books I’ll be thinking about all the great people you have introduced to me. If I were to pick a favorite scene/event it would be them getting the snow caves in order. I could just picture it in my mind. I highly recommend this book (and the series) as you will not be disappointed.

Also, I like the balance of romance in this book.

Well I think I’ve said enough (I could go on!).

Mother Nature is angry at what humans have done…

Following a global nuclear disaster which decimates what is left of Monterey, CA, a disparate band of survivors decides to set out for a new (and hopefully not as dangerously polluted with biochemicals) home. Their leadership, headed by Laura Patton Balous, comes together with a heretofore hidden band of military veterans to make their way out of the Monterey area to their goal, Carmel Valley, a journey of only 98 miles but one which takes months to accomplish. They fight nuclear winter and another enemy strike, as well as, troubles within the ranks as they struggle onward toward what each and every one of them hopes to be a better future.

The Beginning at the End of the World was every bit as enthralling as Monte Vista Village and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment of what happens as Laura and her fellow survivors face a new world.

Fantastic series! This Survival Community suffers through one frustrating setback after another, yet their leader,Laura, keeps them going. You’ll be drawn to the interesting characters and see yourself in a few. You’ll continue to have doubts about Jackson. Is he there to help or help himself? This series is fascinating and offers a bit of everything; emergency preparedness, mystery, light romance, psychology, engineering, human interest, survival, construction, medical advice, and so much more. This series for everyone.

Book 2 begins beautifully, right where it needs to in order to answer questions from book one. I felt so emotionally connected to all the characters and it sucked me right in from the first page. These books are written with perfect description and the reader can imagine everything going on without even trying. There is immense sadness and deep joy in this book as all of the survivors learn to live again and fight to survive nature and the enemy in order to arrive at their new home. I never want this story to end. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go into detail about what happens. Or really even touch on it for that matter, I will say though, this book is worth the read and will leave you wanting more. Make a wise choice and add it to your collection!

Again, just my opinion but I would like more details on how things were done. I love the idea of this story. I sometimes felt Laurie was a tad idealistic and forgiving. I can only hope that if that were to happen people would stick together and become as strong. I guess I will have to wait for the next book to see what happens

Great reads! As soon as I finished Book 1, I started looking for Book 2. Now I’m eagerly awaiting Book 3.

Lynn Lamb is a great descriptive writer. The people really come to life. The nuclear winter is very believable. I hope it never happens. If it does, I hope there is a Laura Patton in my area. The relationships between the protagonists are very well written.

I was hooked during the first book, but this one was even more captivating. I felt such an emotional connection to the characters…they made me laugh, cry, and even a little angry at times. I love watching Laura change and grow, and find joy and strength in such a difficult time. Her flaws and emotions make her relatable and I feel like I’m taking this arduous journey right along with her. I was sad to be finished with the book, and I cannot wait to read the next one!

The second installment was just as good as the first. Such a great and realistic-feeling adventure. My only complaints were how seemingly quickly Laura went from hating to wanting Jackson, and the repetitive thoughts about the village.
