Thriller at its best

By Amazon customer on February 3, 2014

Format: Paperback

Being a person who has always found science curious, I found this novel very interesting. Medical and science dramas are in their own leagues and much more fun than traditional thrillers… If you’re wondering what BA-47 stands for, it’s biochem agent number. That’s how many of biological and chemical compounds are named in their initial stages of development. This is because it’s easily identifiable for the scientists. The last thing you want is an accident in a biological plant and that to a deliberate one. Could it be that some sinister designs were taking place, was it a place to develop biological/chemical weapons or is it that something went wrong, read it to find out. There is some scientific material in it too which is fine for most readers as it does not go into too much of the technical details. But there is enough to keep the readers curious and keep on reading particularly about that fact about the solubility of BA-47. You need to read it to find out how it could be used as a bio weapon to kill people. If you love conspiracies and thrillers, you will love it. Who knows it could well be government behind all this.

Engaging Paranoid Conspiracy Thriller

Some initial disclaimers going in. This book has some minor formatting flaws (paragraphs that indent a little too far in), but otherwise the copy-editing looks fairly clean with just the occasional typo. Note also that I was reading in my cloud reader on my laptop, so it’s possible these glitches do not present in other formats. They were not enough of a distraction in any case to put me off reading the book, and I’m glad of that, because it turned out to be a fun and absorbing tale.

If you’re a fan of medical thrillers in the Robin Cook vein, or scientific thrillers of any kind, involving biotech, this is for you. Reading it, it felt like a cross between Outbreak by Robin Cook, and possibly The China Syndrome, or Erin Brokovich. Instead of a lawyer trying to figure out what’s going on, and to sort out truth from the lies and disinformation wars waged by the guilty parties, we have just an average joe looking into things, which dials up the thriller aspect of the story as the odds are just that much more against him. Factor in that he’s also among the intended victims of the next planned, deliberate biohazard spill, and we have a definite ticking clock, edgy thriller that rockets forward from page one. Kudos to the writer, by the way, for cramming this much story in so few words; this book borders on a novella.

One thing about the author’s writing style reminded me of my own, the dialogue driven plot is very easy to see play out as a film in your mind’s eye. Most of what we learn about the characters, and our ability to bond with them comes through dialogue and their character dynamics and interaction.Read more ›

All I can say is must read!

By Tachi on February 9, 2014

Format: Paperback

When I first picked this book to trade for reviews I was a little skeptical. It takes a certain kind of mind to create a world that can drag me into a book, and I was skeptical because me and science never got along very well but the book sounded too interesting to pass up.
I must say though, that all skepticism that I had flew out the window when I got into the meat of this well thought plot of the book! Not only do you step into the world of the unknown in a chemical plant, where a chemical agent has killed almost all the workers, but you also step into an emotionally rich environment with the main protagonist, just merely a couple of years after losing his wife, now has to fight to keep himself and an entire town of people alive!
I would defiantly suggest this book to anyone willing to give it a chance! I did and I am glad because it definitely took me to a different place everything I set my eyes to the screen of my phone!!!

BA-47 is the code given to a new chemical that could be used as an agent to induce a massive amount of deaths if used in the wrong way. While Ms. Winn’s novel about a pair of disparate heroes banding together to stop an evil genius has been done many times in the past, her marvelous characters, tense situations, and location (Montana) all team up to give the reader a fantastic reading experience.

I’ll definitely pick up a couple more of Ms. Winn’s work after this review. If you like books or movies based on scientists, military, and races against time like The Andromeda Strain and Outbreak, you’ll love BA-47. Five Stars

When I pick up a P.S. Winn book, I expect to be entertained and I’m never disappointed. BA-47 starts with the chilling tale of an accident in a bio-fuel plant in Montana. The lab workers are killed and the plant survivors plus the residents of the surrounding town are in a race to save their lives. And questions arise. Was this an accident or an experiment overseen by a disturbed military scientist. When Jack Carlton teams up with the local radio personality to expose possible government involvement, things go from bad to worse. Warning! This is one of those books that is difficult to put down once you start reading
