Some Scars Go Soul Deep
The Primani Series continues with this dark romantic suspense! Broken Souls is a stand-alone title.
Stalked by evil
Rori Austin’s life is over. She just doesn’t know it yet. Plagued by recurring nightmares and terrifying fugues, she’s hanging on by a thread. When she blacks out and wakes up in 1969, she knows she’s out of control. Broke and alone in the city that never sleeps, she’s desperate to find someone who can hold back the darkness in her mind. When too-good-to-be-true Declan shows up out of nowhere, she’s thrilled until he starts asking questions she has no intention of answering.
Haunted by guilt
Primani Declan Manning is a ruthless killer and a renowned healer. Demons fear him. Humans love him. Life is good. The last thing he needs is a human woman. After saving Rori’s life, he walks away, but can’t forget the fear in her eyes. It haunts him, dredging up memories better left buried deep. Intrigued by her secrets, he uncovers the horrifying truth. She’s been marked for Hell, and her time is up.

This book is so much about love; the sibling love between Mica and Dec; the brotherly love between Dec, Sean, and Killian; the friendship between Mica and Dani; the romantic and passionate love between Mica and Killian (“He was jealous of what they had. They were crazy for each other, and everyone could see it. Mica looked at Killian with such intensity it hurt to watch.”); parental love Killian and Mica had for the babies; familial love between all of them; Dec’s love for humanity (“He loved the energy of millions of souls converging in one place! He loved to walk down the street and watch the kaleidoscope of colors swarming around him. The hum of the people was music to his ears.” And later, “well, he just liked humans more than he should. “). Love is the theme that knits the book together, but DON’T BE MISLED, just when the reader gets warm, cozy, and comfortable the suspense level shoots back up and you discover “Sometimes evil could feel heavenly…” Proceed with caution, a wonderful, exciting thrill ride is waiting for you just inside the pages of “Broken Souls”.

I received a copy of Broken Souls by Laurie Olerich for free through Goodreads First Reads.
Wow! I rated this book 5 stars. I am shocked that I had not hear of this series prior to winning this Book. It is Book 4 in the Primani Series. After reading this book, I quickly went to Amazon and got the first book in the series. It was free in the Kindle Edition!!! I also bought books 2 and 3 in the Kindle Edition, which very well priced.
I loved this book and this series we get demons, Primani, and angels. Rori Austin has lived a rough life. She was orphaned and then struggled through the foster care system. She is now an adult but things are still not easy. She has recurring nightmares of a demon. Primani, Declan Manning, Dec begins popping up just in time to save Rori and asks a lot of personal questions. Dec is attracted to Rori and makes excuses as to why he is there. Rori is very distrustful and is wary of Dec’s presence. Eventually, he admits his feelings for her and he and his family teach her how to protect herself from the demon in her nightmares.

Where to start? First, this book can be enjoyed as a wonderful sidetrip, explaining why Declan is who he is or as a standalone read. So don’t hesitate to snag it if you haven’t read the other Primani books yet. I love this story, there are so many layers, plot twists and singular moments in it. I have always liked Declan’s character, who doesn’t adore Declan? And it’s hard to watch him struggle with all the crazy women in his life, compared to them, demons are easy!
But for me, this story is completely made by Rori. Without giving away any spoilers, let me enthuse about Rori…. All of Laurie’s female characters are strong, which I love, but Rori is not the typical high octane heroine. This girl has a depth and a center core made of titanium that will leave you in awe of her ability to persevere. Her vulnerability and brokenness are actually the root of her strength.
The pacing in the story is perfect, as always action packed, but the plot unfolds steadily along with the many layers of all the characters. In a word, this book is LUSH. It has it all, romance, hot and steamy action, a twisty turvy exciting paranormal plot-line and characters you fall in love with and root for to come out on top because literally up to the last couple of pages, you don’t know how it’s going to end for them. This is a must read book! I LOVED this story!
